Former Walmart site in Milwaukee planned for Mixed-Use Redevelopment

Self-Storage, Apartments, Public Library, and Technology Facilities Proposed


May 26, 2026: AFS Milwaukee LLC is moving forward with plans to redevelop a portion of a former Walmart property located at 5825 W. Hope Ave. in Milwaukee into a large mixed-use development.


The redevelopment project includes approximately 108,000 square feet dedicated to self-storage, along with space for computer services, data processing, and research facilities.

In addition to the commercial components, the city plans to construct a new 17,000-square-foot public library as part of the overall development.


The project also includes the development of 200 apartment units within the existing parking lot area. The residential portion, known as Midtown Commons, is being developed by Gorman & Co., a real estate development firm based in Oregon, Wisconsin.


AFS Milwaukee LLC is headquartered in Appleton, Wisconsin, and is involved in the redevelopment initiative aimed at transforming the underutilized retail property into a vibrant mixed-use destination.


Gorman & Co. is recognized for its expertise in residential and community-focused development projects across the region.
